Orlando redefines the term “Winter Wonderland.”

Trade in snow flurries and cloudy skies for palm trees and sunshine here in Central Florida.

Our beautiful weather, world-class attractions, and legendary hospitality all make Orlando the perfect destination in the winter months.

Wondering what to expect when you travel to Orlando this winter?

Here’s a simple guide to Winter in Orlando to get you started.

Key Takeaways

Winter Weather

While Orlando’s winter weather may feel chilly to native Floridians, much of the rest of the world will consider it warm and beautiful.

Throughout the months of December, January, and February, the average high temps are in the low to mid-70's F (20’s C) and the average low temps are in the low to mid-50's F (around 12 degrees C.)

The good news is that the rainy season has drawn to a close by the time winter rolls around, so you can typically look forward to sunny skies and only a handful of drizzly days every month.

While the days are usually mild, we have our fair share of cold snaps and brisk temps, so be prepared to bundle up if necessary.

What to Pack

The key to packing for an Orlando winter vacay is to bring plenty of layers.

While you can leave your heavy winter coat behind, you’ll want to pack a jacket or a sweatshirt to bundle up in case it gets chilly.

On the other end of the Orlando-winter-weather spectrum, don’t forget to pack your bathing suit! It may be warm enough to lounge on the pool deck or swim in a seasonally heated pool.

If you’re planning on visiting any theme parks while you’re in Orlando, be sure to pack at least one pair of comfortable shoes that have already been worn in.

Things to Do

Winter is the perfect season to take advantage of the beautiful weather and try some exciting outdoor activities.

Here are a few of our favorite outdoor activities to do in winter in Orlando.

Spend the Day Kayaking at Wekiva Springs

Wekiva Springs is the perfect place to experience some of Florida’s most unique ecosystems up close.

Rent a kayak or canoe and float along the springs amidst centuries-old oak trees and a shady canopy overhead.

If you feel like swimming, jump into the pristine and clear Wekiva Springs that naturally pump out over 42 million gallons of fresh water daily.

A stop at Wekiva Island is always a great choice, too. Their bar, The Tooting Otter, serving up refreshing beverages that pair perfectly with food from their onsite food truck, Without a Paddle Cafe.

A Self-Guided Outdoor Art Tour

Orlando’s art scene is thriving and there’s no better proof than the incredible murals that have popped up all over town.

Grab your camera and take yourself on a self-guided tour to see some of the city’s most amazing 2D art installations.

You’ll get the chance to see some of Orlando’s unique neighborhoods on your tour like Thornton Park, the Milk District, and Winter Garden.

Play a Few Rounds of Golf

Winter is a great time of year for golfing in Orlando.

The Shingle Creek Golf Club is an 18-hole course designed by the Arnold Palmer Design Company. Enjoy a leisurely paced game followed by lunch at The Clubhouse Grille.

If you’re looking for something a little more casual, check out Top Golf. You and your party can settle into a private bay where you’ll compete in a variety of golf games while enjoying tasty cocktails and a full menu of tasty sports bar-inspired food.

Visit the Theme Parks

If you’re hoping to visit the theme parks without the crazy crowds, winter is the perfect time.

Well, after the holidays.

Once the theme park celebrations and New Year’s Eve have come and gone, the crowds tend to die down for a while – until spring break.

January and February are some of the best times to visit the theme parks. While there will still be lines, at least you won’t be waiting in stifling heat and humidity.
